What a wonderful part of life
marriage can be.

But

there are rules to a successful marriage.

HUSBANDS

Genesis 2:18; Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

Genesis 2:24; Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1 Peter 3:7; Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

Colossians 3:19; Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.

Ephesians 5:25; Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,

Ephesians 5:33; However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Proverbs 18:22; He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

Ephesians 5:28-29; In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,

Matthew 5:28; But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Proverbs 31:11; Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life.

1 Timothy 5:8; But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

WIVES

Proverbs 19:14; House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Romans 7:2; For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage.

1 Peter 3:1; Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives...

Proverbs 31:10; An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

Proverbs 12:4; An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 14:1; The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.

Proverbs 21:9; It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

Proverbs 31:28Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

MARRIAGE

1 Corinthians 7:32-34; I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband.

James 5:16; Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Hebrews 13:4; Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11; To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should not divorce his wife.

1 Corinthians 7:5 ESV; Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Ephesians 5:21; Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Proverbs 24:3; By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;

Ephesians 4:31; Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

Romans 12:17-21; Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Philippians 4:6; Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Romans 12:2; Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Galatians 5:13; For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

1 Corinthians 11:3; But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.

Romans 14:1-23; As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

James 4:7; Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

1 Corinthians 11:11; Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman;

Proverbs 18:13; If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

James 1:19; Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

Ephesians 5:1-33; Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Ephesians 5:18; And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Genesis 1:27; So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

1 Peter 4:8; Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Philippians 4:8; Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Ephesians 5:23; For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

Romans 12:17; Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.

1 John 1:9; If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Philippians 4:7; And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 4:22; To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,

Proverbs 28:9; If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

Ephesians 4:2; With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,

Ephesians 4:2-3; With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

1 Corinthians 7:3; The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.

Proverbs 3:27; Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.

Colossians 3:14; And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

CHILDREN

1 John 3:18 ESV / 23 helpful votes
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Proverbs 31:1-31 ESV / 17 helpful votes
The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him: What are you doing, my son? What are you doing, son of my womb? What are you doing, son of my vows? Do not give your strength to women, your ways to those who destroy kings. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, or for rulers to take strong drink, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed and pervert the rights of all the afflicted. ...

Colossians 3:21; Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

Ephesians 6:4; Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Titus 2:4; And so train the young women to love their husbands and children,

Proverbs 22:6; Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Exodus 20:12; “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

3 John 1:4; I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

2 Timothy 3:16; All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

2 Timothy 3:15; And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 5:17; Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.

Hosea 11:4; I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them.

LOVE

1 Corinthians 13:1-13;

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.

3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud

5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!

9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!

10 But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.

12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

WOMEN

Women have been misunderstood and mistreated for centuries.  One of the reasons is this Bible verse:

Ephesians 5:22; Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.

THIS CAN BE VERY MISLEADING AND CAN, AND HAS IN THE PAST, LED PEOPLE TO TREAT WOMEN WITHOUT RESPECT.

There are other translations ie:  Ephesians 5:22; Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.

If we take a look at the difference between these 2 words:

SUBMIT:

  1. To resign or surrender; to yield one's person to the power of another; to give up resistance.

  2. To be submissive; to yield without murmuring.

SUBJECT':

 "that which lies beneath."

1. Placed or situated under.

Being situated or placed under someone (like a chain of command) is quite different than "to resign or surrender; to yield one's person to the power of another" and to "to be submissive and to yield without murmuring".

The translation verification of Ephesians 5:22 will show that the actual Greek translation does not use either the word 'submit' or 'subject'.

It says in the direct translation from Greek to English (word for word)

"Wives to the own husbands as to the Lord."      which could have been translated as:

"Wives be to your own husbands as you would be to the Lord".

God (the Lord) does not expect wives (or anyone) to be without will or choice, which is the apparency of the word "submit" which is in many translations.

In the Garden of Eden, the woman was given an equal right to rule over the planet the same as Adam:

Genesis 1:28; God blessed them and said to them,

“Be fruitful and increase in number;

fill the earth and subdue it.

Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

1 Corinthians 11:12;  For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman.

But everything comes from God.

This verse shows that God chose women to play a very important part in the world.

Men could not be born without women.

However, that does not mean that women are restricted to childbirth as some think.

Let's look at 8 women in the Bible who were famous (and there are more).  God used women.  He does not think them inferior.
