First of all, let's look at who God had to be:
In order for God to create all that we see and more, He had to be apart from it and not in a physical form, because He is the Creator of the physical.
The creator of the physical would not be able to be physical.
In the beginning (the start of everything), God created the heavens (what we see when we look up), and our planet earth.
In other words, before God created all that we see, there was nothing.
This verse tells us that God had created the waters of the earth and now as a Spirit was hovering over them..
Below is a list of the days, what God did on those days, and the related Bible verse.
THE BEGINNING: The first seven days of God's creation:
The 1st day heavens, waters, day, and night created (Genesis 1:1-5)
The 2nd day - the sky, morning, and evening created (Genesis 1:6-8)
The 3rd day - dry land, seas, seed-bearing plants, vegetation, and fruit trees created (Genesis 1:11-13)
The 4th day - the Sun, Moon, and stars created (Genesis 1:14-19)
The 5thday - creatures that live in the sea and creatures that fly created and blessed (Genesis 1:20-23)
The 6th day - living creatures, livestock and wild animals, and 2 human spirits - made in the image of God - created (Genesis 1:24-31)
The 7th day - God finished his work of creation and rested, blessing the seventh day and making it holy. (Genesis 2:1-2)
BEGINNING OF MAN. On the 6th day God says:
Man's body formed (made)
God breathes the "breath of life" into the man's body to make it living.
(Which he had done for all the other creatures, animals and birds).
See Usage Note for Breath of Life.
Breath of Life
God's Image Inserted
Mind: The part of a person by which one feels, perceives, thinks, remembers, desires, and imagines.
Will: intend, purpose. decree, ordain. to determine by an act of choice.
Emotion: any of the feelings of joy, sorrow, fear, hate, love, etc.
I strongly recommend going to the interlinear to see its direct translation from Hebrew.
You will notice that it states "and became" both "a being" and "the man". This tells us from the original language that 2 things happened In Genesis 2:7: the "being" (god's image/human spirit) and "the man" became living. The translators did not convey this when it came time for English.
We can see how the first man (named Adam) got his Image of God, but how do we get our Image of God (human spirit) into each one of our bodies?

WHO IS GOD?
Geneses 1:26; Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness,
so that they may rule over
the fish in the sea
and the birds in the sky,
over the livestock and all the wild animals,
and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
God is suggesting that He create "mankind" “male and female” "in our image".
God and Jesus (who God was talking to - see below) were both Spirits = the “male and female” creations are also spiritual ("in our image" Genesis 1:26).
God had not made physical bodies for them yet. He does that later (see below).
Jesus is the "first of His works". God's first creation.
"Let us" is God and Jesus.
God is talking to Jesus when He says
"Let us make man in our Image" Geneses 1:26
God creates 2 spirits in His likeness, which means they have to be spiritual images (Genesis 1:27),
He has the intention that they be inserted into male and female bodies which he will create
at a later date.
God tells His newly created male and female spirits about the world they are about to inherit - when they have bodies - and gives them instructions;
Genesis 1:28; God blessed them and said to them,
“Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it.
Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
In other words, God is telling His 2 spirits that it is not necessary for them (when they have bodies) to be concerned/worried about what they will have for food because it is supplied for them.
Genesis 1:30; And to every beast of the earth
and all the birds in the sky
and all the creatures that move along the ground, where there is life,
I have given every green plant for food.
And it was so.
Also, it is not necessary for these 2 spirits to be concerned/worried about what every living creature will have for food. (since they are going to "rule" them when they have bodies) as it says in: Genesis 1:28 (above)
Genesis 2:5-6; Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth
and no plant had yet sprung up,
for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,
6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
God now rests on the 7th day.
He has created the universe including planet Earth, creatures, fish, birds, livestock and wild animals.
He has created 2 spirits, which will rule over the life He has created, when they have human bodies.
Next, in Genesis 2:5-6 God puts in streams which "watered the whole surface of the ground."
Because of various confusions, we have split the above verse Genesis 2:7 into 3 PARTS. PART A, PART B, PART C.
Genesis 2:7; And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
God forms a body for the man spirit
(created in Genesis 1:27.)
from the dust of the ground
This body is not yet living.
NOTE: Usage of the term: "BREATH OF LIFE".
Geneses 7:22; Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.
'Breath of life' refers to the physical bodies of creatures, animals, and humans. It does not address the spiritual.
Genesis 2:7; And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul.
God puts His Image (created in Geneses 1:27;)
into the now living body, at the same time as breathing the Breath of Life into the body to make it alive as he had done with all the other living creatures. (see Part 2 above)
and the now live body becomes a "living soul" (has a mind, will and emotion). Plus having God's Image/spirit in Genesis 1:26-130.
Just using pure logic, God would have to give this fleshly body + brain (with only a genetic program)
something to make it superior to animals, birds, and creatures
in order for it to "rule" over them. (See above).
God created a male and female spirit (in His image).
God then created a body from the dust of the earth &
breathed into it the breath of life to make it living, (as He had done with all the various types of animals, birds, and creatures).
God then simultaneously infused the now living body with 'His image' created in Geneses 1:27 to make an intelligent, spiritual being. who also had a soul (mind, will, emotion)
who could rule over all the birds and over all the animals and creatures that moved on the earth. Since there was no evil in the beginning, there was no need for Adam to be born again in order to renew his spirit.
God had to create Adam as a fully grown man so he could rule over all the animals and creatures.
THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION
The theory of evolution has been disproved over and over again. I always ask why apes are not turning into men over the many years we have been watching them.
I am sure Satan's dream would be for all mankind to assume it came from the ape, and that the Bible's view of creation was not true and we do not have spirits.
It is interesting to note that both Stalin and Hitler believed in evolution.
Among the many organizations out there that have disputed the 'theory of evolution' see UCG.org - Beyond Today, There are many proofs, you just have to Google.
